Do you remember the Chinese lesson, The Calm Hostess? A woman in colonial India invites her friends to dinner. She remains calm, and she doesn’t tell her friends that there is a cobra under the table. Then her servant is called to bring a bowl of hot milk onto the balcony. Immediately the cobra slithers out to the balcony, and was trapped there. Also, in many Bollywood films snakes have been shown drinking milk. (Bollywood is a filming studio in India, just like Hollywood in the United States.)
All these are really fantastic! But is it really true? Do snakes really drink milk? I don’t think so, based on the following investigation!
Firstly, only mammals can digest milk. All baby mammals drink milk from their moms’ breasts. Their digestive systems tolerate it. But, snakes are not mammals, they are reptiles. Their food is, even for their baby snakes mice, frogs, insects etc.. Their digestive systems do not work against milk.
Secondly, during an Indian festival called Nag Panchami, you can see a snake drinking milk but the truth is that they are starved for up to 15 days, so they will drink and eat anything, but they die a few days later because they can’t digest milk.
Finally, I can only say that snakes drinking milk is not a fact, just a legend.. 作者: 不亦悦乎 时间: 2013-9-24 14:53 标题: 小学五年级课文 - 一篇“缺乏人性”的却希望“感人至深”的课文
