华而街日报曾经在2007年做的一项调查， 根据该年在八个顶尖大学 - 哈佛大学(Harvard)，普林斯顿大学(Princeton)，麻省理工学院(MIT)，威廉姆斯(Williams)，波莫纳(Pomona)，斯沃斯莫尔(Swarthmore)，芝加哥(University of Chicago)和约翰斯•
霍普金斯大学(Johns Hopkins) 就读的新生人数并根据其高中母校应届毕业生人数编制了一份清单。再以进入这些大学的学生人数除以其母校毕业生人数所得出的百分比排名。
由下表我们可以看出输送学生到这8所大学百分比最高的前15名都是美国的私立名高中。 而在这65所高中中，公立的不多。 排名最好的公立高中是位于纽约市的HUNTER COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL， 排名第16名。 其它的Princeton High School 排名第33名；Stuyvesant High School 排名第38名；Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology 排名第42；以及 Boston Latin School 排名第52名 。
