中新网10月8日电 据英国《泰晤士报》报道，该报与英国著名高等教育研究机构QS(Quacquarelli Symonds)联合进行的2009年世界大学评估8日出炉，美英两国大学席卷榜单高位，中国香港有3所大学进入榜单前50名，而中国内地只有清华大学进入Top50。

　　东京大学排名榜单第22位，在亚洲排名首位，香港大学排名第24位紧随其后，另外香港科技大学(35位)和香港中文大学(46位)也进入了前50名的榜单。

　　清华大学今年在此榜单中上升明显，排名第49位，跃升7位，去年排名为第56位。

大学校训反映的是大学精神与大学风貌，大学校训至关重要。
　　美国哈佛大学的校训为“让真理与你为友”，体现的是崇尚真理、平等、自由、科学的大学精神。这所大学多年来只认真理，不认权势；只认科学，不认金钱；只认平等，不认淫威，在世界上口碑极佳。哈佛大学的校训是：Let Plato be your friend, and Aristotle, but more let your friend be truth，中文翻译为"与柏拉图为友，与亚里士多德为友，更要与真理为友"。大学的目的不仅是让学生认识已有的知识，而且还要让他们去创造新的知识。学生必须学会自己去认识真理。但追求新的真理并不是一帆风顺的，不仅需要付出艰辛的努力，而且可能遭到旧的权威或当权者的反对。所以，与真理为友就显得更加可贵。
美国普林斯顿大学的校训为：“普林斯顿——为国家服务，为世界服务”，这种服务世界、造福国家的理念独展逸韵，令人肃然起敬。该校培养的许多学生在世界各地出类拔萃，不同凡响。
美国斯坦福大学的校训为：“愿学术自由之风劲吹”，该校一贯倡导学术自由，追求科研强国，不断推出学术精品，铸造了瑰丽神圣的学术殿堂。

清华大学：自强不息，厚德载物。 1914年冬，中国近代名人梁启超先生应邀来清华作题为《君子》的演讲时，曾以此激励清华学子发愤读书。其后典出《周易》的这八个字被当时清华大学的梅贻琦校长定为校训，并一直沿用至今。原文是“天行健，君子以自强不息。地势坤，君子以厚德载物。”
复旦大学：博学而笃志，切问而近思。语出《论语·子夏》，意思是说，学习要广博、坚定，并且要有敢于质疑的精神。原文是“子夏曰：博学而笃志，切问而近思，仁在其中矣！”
中山大学：博学、审问、慎思、明辨、笃行。中山大学校训是孙中山先生于1924 年11月11日在广东大学举行成立典礼时亲笔提写的。十字训词原文出自《礼·中庸》：“博学也，审问也，慎思也，明辨也，笃行也。”
厦门大学：自强不息，止于至善。 1921年陈嘉庚先生创办厦门大学时即把“自强不息，止于至善”定为校训。“自强不息”指自觉地积极向上、奋发图强、永不懈怠。最早见于《周易·乾》：“天行健，君子以自强不息”。 “止于至善”指通过不懈的努力，以臻尽善尽美而后才停止，即不达到十分完美的境界决不停止自己的努力。语出《礼记·大学》：“大学之道，在明明德，在亲民，在止于至善”。

　　一、中国重点大学校训价值取向的特点
　　为更好地研究中国重点大学校训价值取向，特选取109“211工程”[1]大学作为调查对象，通过统计分析，中国重点大学校训价值取向的特点主要表现在七个方面：
　　（一）崇尚使用古语
　　中国具有悠久的历史和文化，为大学校训提供了肥沃的文化土壤。从109所“211工程”大学的校训统计来看，直接或间接引用古代用语占47.7%。大部分中国重点大学的校训都引经据典，可以从古典文献中找到渊源。例如，清华大学校训“自强不息，厚德载物”这八个字来自《周易》中“乾”“坤”两卦的卦辞：“天行健，君子以自强不息”、“地势坤，君子以厚德载物”。中国古代典籍特别是儒家经典，成为了当代大学校训取之不尽、用之不竭的理想源泉。
　　（二）强调求实、至真
　　从109所“211工程”大学的校训统计来看，其中涉及“实、求实、求是、求真、至真”的占48.6%，例如，中国人民大学的“实事求是”、 北京理工大学的“团结勤奋，求实创新”等，这些校训都体现了这些高校求实崇真的教育思想和办学理念，激励学生养成科学精神，追求真理、探索真理，献身真理，把对真、善、美的追寻作为终极目标。
　　（三）取向创造、拓新
　　从109所“211工程”大学的校训统计来看，其中涉及“新、创新、创造、拓新”的占36.7%，比如，北京工业大学的“团结 勤奋 严谨 创新”、南开大学的“允公允能 日新月异”等，这些校训都体现了勇于创造、敢为人先的治学思想，体现了一种永不僵化、永不停滞的革新思想。
　　（四）推崇自强、勤奋
　　从109所“211工程”大学的校训统计来看，涉及“自强、自强不息、勤奋、勤俭、勤勉”的占45.9%，蕴含了传统文化中勤能补拙、天道酬勤、自我修炼的哲学思想。比如，清华大学的“自强不息 厚德载物”、东北大学的“自强不息 知行合一”等，充分体现了当代大学对学生的敬业精神的培养，鼓励学生要效法天地，为实现人生价值、理想信念而自强不息、奋发向上。
　　（五）突出团结、乐群
　　从109所“211工程”大学的校训统计来看，涉及“团结、乐群”的占22.9%，这充分体现了高校对学生集体主义精神和团队意识培养的高度重视，比如，北京工业大学的“团结 勤奋 严谨 创新”、 北京理工大学的“团结勤奋 求实创新”等，这些大学校训中都强调团体发展的重要性，暗含个人是团队中的一员，个人发展应以团体的发展为基础，不能脱离集体而特立独行。
　　（六）追求厚德、至善
　　中国传统文化异常强调德治，现代中国又提出了“以德治国、依法治国”的执政方略。从109所“211工程”大学的校训统计来看，其中涉及“立德、厚德、师表、至善”的占31.2%，是传统立德育人、厚德载物思想在当代的反映。比如，清华大学的“自强不息 厚德载物”，正是德治在大学办学中的直接体现，完全契合了大学立德立人的教育目标和人才培养目标。
　　（七）倡导博学、笃行
　　中国传统文化十分强调博闻强识，积学笃行。从109所“211工程”大学的校训统计来看，其中涉及“学风、学识、博学、笃行”的占35.8%，体现了大学对学生学习的重视，对 “博学、笃行”的倡导。
　　
　　二、外国著名大学校训价值取向的特点
　　（一）对知识和真理的追求
　　在收集的当代外国著名大学的21个校训中，跟“求知、知识”有关的校训占52.4%，与“真理”有关的有关的占19%，表现出对知识和真理的追求。比如，哈佛大学的“让真理与你为友”、 耶鲁大学的“真理与光明”、 哥伦比亚大学的“在上帝的神灵中我们寻求知识”、 芝加哥大学的“让知识充实你的人生”、 加利福尼亚大学伯克利分校的“愿知识之光普照大地”、 杜克大学的“追求知识．信仰宗教”、 加拿大皇后大学的“智慧和知识将是未来时代的稳定剂”等，对知识和真理的表述形象而具体，让人不由得对知识和真理产生渴望。
　　（二）反映了明显的宗教色彩
　　国外高校校训经常出现上帝、主、神灵等宗教色彩的词汇，反映了明显的宗教色彩。比如，牛津大学的“上帝乃知识之神”、 哥伦比亚大学的“在上帝的神灵中我们寻求知识”、 加利福尼亚大学伯克利分校的“愿知识之光普照大地”等，体现着宗教文化。宗教对人的道德和行为具有强大的规范和约束力，对文化教育具有持久的渗透力。
　　（三）表现出对学术自由的渴望
　　对学术自由的渴望和追求，这是外国著名高校校训价值取向的又一特点。比如，斯坦福大学的“愿学术自由之风劲吹”、 加州理工学院的“真理使人自由”。洪堡认为：“从事学术是在进行一种精神活动，而精神活动需要‘必然的自由’和‘不受干扰’才能进行。只有保证学术自由，才能充分发挥教师和学生的个性，才能最大限度地发挥他们的积极性和创造性。”[2]
　　
　　三、中外著名大学校训价值取向的比较
　　在中外大学校训价值取向上，中国大学校训表现为“求实求是”、“求真至真”的科学性思想，“日新月异”的革新思想，“自强不息”的奋斗思想，“厚德载物”、“止于至善”的道德性思想，“团结乐群”的集体主义思想，“博学笃行”、“学参天地”的治学思想；外国大学校训表现为“求知”、“求真”的科学性思想， “重神灵”、“重上帝”的宗教性思想，“崇尚学术自由”的思想。中外大学校训价值取向在“求知”、“求真”的科学性思想方面有共同之处，差异主要表现在文化上的差异：一是中国大学校训中厚德至善的伦理倾向与外国大学校训中的宗教倾向差异，二是中国大学校训中团结乐群的集体主义倾向与外国大学校训中个体自由发展倾向差异。
　　
　　四、中外大学校训价值取向的启示
　　（一）科学与人文并重
　　我国校训深受中国传统文化特别是儒家文化的影响，强调人的道德和内心修养。例如，在109所“211工程”大学的校训中，其中涉及“德”的占31.2%，“立德、厚德、师表、至善”等词多次出现在校训中。正如陈寅恪在《吾国学术之现状及清华之职责》中所说的，“吾民族所承受文化之内容，为一种人文主义之教育” [3]，从中可以看到我国高校特别重视对学生人文主义精神的培养和教育。
　　从外国著名高校的统计分析中，我们可以看到外国高校校训受到宗教文化的影响，带有明显的宗教色彩，而反映人文主义教育的很少。但是我们可以看到，在外国高校校训中也表现出人文主义教育与科学主义教育相互融合的发展趋势，比如，普林斯顿大学的校训“为国家服务，为世界服务”，西点军校的校训“职责、荣誉、国家”等，这些校训就很好地体现了外国高校在学生培养中，重视学生的知识培养的同时，也强调学生为国家服务、为社会服务的人文精神的培养。
　　（二）继承与创新结合
　　校训很好的反映学校的优良传统和文化精髓，一旦确定，就不宜轻易修改。但是，随着社会的发展，环境的变迁，其校训内涵可能会与时代有点脱节。在不改变校训的情况下，就要赋予校训新的时代内涵。 比如，中国科技大学就是很好的例子， “红专并进，理实交融”，是1958年中国科技大学经党中央批准创办时，由郭沫若校长提出的，很有当时的时代气息。“红”一定还要“专”，仅仅是思想好，没有专业的技能，这样的“红”也算不得红；同时，“专”一定要“红”，仅仅是专业水平高，缺少一定的思想政治觉悟，也是不行的。当前，国家非常重视大学生的思想政治教育，我们不仅要创造高水平的物质文明，而且要创造高水平的精神文明。大学需要培养德才兼备、具有共同理想的高素质人才。中国科技大学在保持原有校训的前提下，把原有的校训与新时期的办学理念很好地结合起来，既继承了学校优良的办学传统和文化精神，又赋予了新的时代要求。
　　（三）校训要有鲜明特色
　　校训要有自己的特色，要能反映学校的办学特色、专业特色和地域特色。不同的地域，不同的办学历史与现实条件，不同的办学定位和办学目标，不同的学校类别，决定了不同的高校应该有不同的校训。斯坦福大学用“愿学术自由之风劲吹”作为校训，让人们记住了斯坦福人对学术自由的渴望和不懈追求；北京师范大学校训“学为人师，行为世范”，就很恰当地对教师的人生追求和社会角色进行了定位，对办学定位、办学理念、培养目标和价值取向表述得淋漓尽致。
