Once upon a time there was a king gnome. The king gnome called all the
gnomes together,because he wanted to see if the root babies were ready
to go to bed. The king said who will go and see if the root babies are
ready to go to bed. The littlest gnome said," I will go and see if the
root babies are ready to go to bed". The king gnome thanked the dear
gnome.
从前，有一个矮人国。一天，国王把所有的小矮人召集在一起，因为他想知道根宝宝是不是准备上床睡觉了。国王说：“谁想去看看根宝宝是不是准备上床了？”最小的那个小矮人说：“我想去看看根宝宝是不是准备上床了。”国王就派他去了。
The littlest gnome climbed up through the roots and beautiful crystals.
When he got to the top of the earth,he looked around. Who can I ask if
the root babies are ready to go to bed. The gnome looked up to the blue
sky,he saw many birds flying south. The little gnome called out ,"are
the root babies ready to go to bed?" The birds were so busy flying to
the south that they did not answer. the little gnome walked on and on.
最小的小矮人爬过了许多树根和美丽的山峰。当他到了地球最高的地方，他看了看四周。谁能告诉我根宝宝是不是准备上床了？小矮人抬头看了看蓝天，他看到很多小鸟飞向南方。小矮人大喊:“根宝宝准备上床了吗？”小鸟忙着飞去南方，所以没有回答他。于是小矮人走啊走。

The little gnome came to a beautiful tree with red and gold leaves that were falling to the ground. The little gnome asked "are the root babies ready to go to bed?"The tree did not answer,but the leaves kept falling and falling to the ground. The little gnome walked on and on. At last he
came to an apple tree,the tree had many apples on it that were turning
redder and redder.The little gnome asked ,"are the root babies ready to
go to bed?" The tree did not answer for it was so busy with its apples
turning redder and redder.The little gnome walked on and on. He thought
and thought who can I ask if the root babies are ready to go to bed.
Then a beautiful sun fairy came to the gnome and said,"dear little gnome
everyone is trying to tell you that the root babies are ready to go to
bed."
小矮人来到一棵美丽的大树下，红色的、黄色的叶子落了一地。小矮人问“根宝宝准备上床了吗？”大树没有回答他，树叶落呵落，落了满地。小矮人又走啊走，他终于看到一棵苹果树，树上有很多苹果，苹果也变得越来越红。小矮人问：“根宝宝准备上床了吗？”苹果树没有回答他，因为他正在忙着让苹果变得越来越红。小矮人又接着走啊走。他想啊想“谁能告诉我根宝宝是不是准备上床了？”这时，一个美丽的太阳仙女走过来对小矮人说：“每个人都在告诉你根宝宝准备上床了。”


The little gnomes gathered all the root babies together and
went back home to the king gnome. The king gnome was so happy to see
that the littlest gnome had brought the root babies to bed. All the
gnomes took care of the root babies all winter long. By spring time the
root babies woke up and were beautiful flowers.
小矮人们把所有的根宝宝聚集在一起，回来找国王。小矮人国王很高兴，他看到最小的小矮人已经把根宝宝们搬到了床上。在长长的冬天里，所有的小矮人都细心的照顾根宝宝。春天的时候，根宝宝会醒来，开美丽的花。.

看了全文，个人觉得：“根宝宝是不是准备上床睡觉了”的意思应该是“根宝宝是不是该上床睡觉了”。.

went back home to the king gnome. The king gnome was so happy to see
that the littlest gnome had brought the root babies to bed.
这里似乎逻辑上有点问题.之前都在讲the littlest gnome, 怎么这段开头先跳出了the little gnomes?.

看来翻译上有些问题.哪位抽空可否帮大家重新翻译一下?.

刚开始看得云里雾里的,后来根据shisongquan的提示,大概明白了故事的内容.
我想是不是这样翻译更符合汉语的习惯:
从前，有一个矮人国。一天，国王把所有的小矮人召集在一起，因为他想知道根宝宝是不是该到上床睡觉的时间了。国王问：“谁能告诉我根宝宝是不是准备睡觉了？”最小的那个小矮人自高奋勇的说：“我可以去问问根宝宝是不是准备睡觉了。”国王对亲爱的小矮人表示了感谢!
这个最小的小矮人攀上藤蔓和美丽的石头,来到了地球之巅。他环顾四周,谁能告诉我根宝宝是不是该睡觉了？
小矮人抬头看了看蓝天，他看到很多小鸟正在南飞。小矮人大声问道:“请问根宝宝是不是要睡觉了？”
小鸟们正忙着飞去南方，来不及回答他的问题。小矮人只好继续走啊走啊…

小矮人继续向前走,边走边想“谁能告诉我根宝宝是不是该睡觉了？”
这时，美丽的太阳女神来到了小矮人面前,对他说：“,亲爱的小矮人,其实每个人都在试图告诉你,根宝宝正在准备上床睡觉呢!”
于是,小矮人们将所有的根宝宝召集起来,带到了国王面前。
小矮人国王非常开心的发现那个最小的小矮人已经照顾根宝宝们上了床。
在漫长的冬日里，所有的小矮人都细心的照顾着根宝宝们。
当春天来临的时候，根宝宝就会醒来，开出美丽的花朵。.
