The Indwelling Christ and Abiding in Christ (10)
– The Indwelling Christ as it pertains to Sanctification and Glorification
Scriptures: Rom: 8:17-18, 28-30; Col 1:21-22; Heb 2:10, 10:14; 2 Cor 3:18, 4:16-17, 7:1
Memorization verse: “3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.” (2 Pet 1:3-7)
I. What God has given in Christ is the full salvation – Justification → Sanctification → Glorification
a. “28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. “ (Rom 8:28-30)
II. “Sanctification” is not just a precious promise, but also speaks of the transformation and fruits that should exhibit in our lives
a. “21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight— “ (Col 1:21-22)
b. “For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. “ (Heb 10:14)
c. “Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. “(2 Cor 7:1)
d. “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. “ (2 Cor 3:18)
III. Glorification is the end purpose of salvation – the fulfillment of the will of God
a. “Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” (Isa 43:7)
b. “Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. “ (Rom 8:30)
c. “For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. “ (Heb 2:10)
d. “… if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. (Rom 8:17b-18)
e. “16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory … “( 2 Cor 4:16-17).
